Do you see yourself as a budding entrepreneur just waiting for the opportunity to happen? Do you crave the flexibility and freedom to work from home and be with your children? There are so many opportunities waiting for creative, intelligent, hard working single mums to develop from home. So where do you begin?

1. Find an Idea

The best idea will always be something that you are passionate about, that inspires you, which makes you feel good when you think about it! After all, you're going to have to invest a lot of your time, energy and commitment to turn your idea into a business, so it's always better if you enjoy it!. But don't jump ahead of yourself just yet. The first step is to write down a list of things that you can do, or make, that you think other people may be interested in buying. Don't judge the ideas just yet. Simply write the list. You may already know what it is you want to do.

2. Understand Your Target Market

Once you’ve decided the type of person that you will sell your services or product to, you have to ask one critical question: What's in it for them? You need to ask yourself, why would this person by my service or product over someone else's? If you can answer that, you have a business idea!

3. Write Yourself a Business Plan

Even in its most basic form, every business needs a plan. 50% of first-time businesses fail in their first year, simply because they didn't take the time to develop a plan. It is not enough to have a great idea and people who want to buy your product. You have to know what your objectives are, how to reach them and the most cost and time effective way to do so. The key areas you need to think about are: who is your key market, who are your competitors and how do they do it, what price to sell your product or service, where you will sell your product or service, how you will promote your product or service and what your point of difference is.
