Don’t feel comfortable in your bedroom? Why not re-arrange it! You’ll be surprised how different your bedroom can look and feel just by moving a few things around. You could move your bed into a different part of the room, or swap pillows and ornaments from another room in the house. Or just hang a different picture on one of your walls and voila!

With so much packed into our schedule, as single mothers we barely get a moment for ourselves. However, it’s necessary that you do have some time just for yourself, even just half an hour. How about re-reading your favourite book? Commit yourself to reading a little bit each night before you go to bed; it’s a great way to relax.

Be Creative

Why should kids have all the fun?

Grab your kids’ paint brushes, a blank canvas or butcher’s paper and just let the paint go where it wants.

Don’t think or judge what you are doing; just let yourself be free to express whatever you’re feeling.

Let the colors and the style be a reflection of you at this moment.

And when you’re done, hang it up and be proud of your new modern art!

It’s also a fun thing to do with your kids as well.

 

Burn some Oils & Heal

Aromatherapy and essential oils have great benefits to your emotional well being.

Buy yourself a basic oil burner, tea light candles (IKEA sells packs of 100) and choose oil that helps you heal.

Eg. To calm your anger use Bergamot, Jasmine, Neroli.

To calm generally and reduce your anxiety use Bergamot, Geranium, Sandalwood, Lavender.

To increase your confidence use Orange, Rosemary, Jasmine

Give Yourself a Foot Treatment

On your feet all day?

Isn’t it time you gave yourself a 15 minute massage and pedicure?

Sit on the edge of the bath and soak your feet for 5 minutes in hot, steamy water. Put some essential oils in the water and breathe in the aroma. You can relax your mind and body at the same time.

Spend the next 10 minutes exfoliating and then finish off slowly massaging moisturizer into your supportive feet and toes. For the final part of the treatment, put your feet up and sit back with a relaxing cup of herbal tea. You deserve it!

Dance at Home

Free up your inhibitions and unleash your spirit!

While no-one is around, put on some upbeat music and let yourself express whatever emotions are inside of you.

Feeling angry? Stomp your feet! Feeling sad, let your arms flow. Want to feel sexy? Wiggle those hips! Let the inner you, out!

Let your 15 minutes of dance be your moving meditation. Just listen to the music and forget about your worries.

Start a Vision Board

Wonder what you really want out of life?

Take 15 minutes and sit down with your favorite magazines. Whenever you see something that you like, cut it out. It may be a dress or a house or a beach scene. It may be some words that trigger a response in you. Cut them all out and put them into a vision box.

Then one day soon, make the time to take them all out and glue them onto a board.

This is your vision board. Every time you need inspiration, YOUR VISION of what YOU WANT is there to inspire and encourage you!

Call a Friend

What would we do without girlfriends!

If you can’t make the time to see your friends, a good 15 minute chat on the phone will get you by, until you have the chance to meet up. It helps you re-connect, show them that despite everything going on in your life, you still value them. It is also reassuring to remind yourself, you are not alone.

Put on Your Face

Feel special, even if you have nowhere to go!

Between driving your kids to school, sports activities, dental appointments, shopping, working, cleaning…. when was the last time you put on makeup and felt special?

Stand in front of your mirror and take a good look at yourself. Which parts of your beautiful face do you like the most; your eyes, your lips, your ears? Put on some lipstick, eyeliner  or earrings and feel special! 

Remember, as a woman, we’re lucky we have this option to “enhance” our features. Go outside and show the world!
